Denny’s is Closing Dozens More Restaurants in 2025

Denny’s, the famous diner known for its pancakes and late-night meals, is closing even more restaurants this year. At first, they said they would shut down 150 locations over time. Now, they say it could be as many as 90 more in 2025. That means nearly 30 extra restaurants will close than expected.

Why Is Denny’s Closing?

The company says there are many reasons:

  • Some restaurants’ leases are ending.
  • Some places don’t get enough customers anymore.
  • The cost of food is going up because of inflation.
  • Bad weather, like snowstorms and wildfires, is hurting business.
  • Fewer people are eating out as food prices rise.

Kelli Valade, Denny’s CEO, said that closing lower-performing restaurants will help the company grow stronger. Fewer restaurants mean more money for improvements, like making existing locations look better.

Will New Restaurants Open?

Even though many locations are shutting down, Denny’s is also opening new ones. In 2025, the company plans to open between 25 and 40 new restaurants. Half of them will be Denny’s, and the rest will be Keke’s Breakfast Café, a smaller diner chain Denny’s bought in 2022.

What About Your Local Denny’s?

The company hasn’t shared which locations will close. If you love Denny’s, your favorite spot might still be safe. But if you see a Denny’s near you closing, now you know why.

What’s Next?

Denny’s is changing, and the future is uncertain. Prices are going up. Customers are spending less. The company is adjusting. Some restaurants will close, and some new ones will open. But one thing is for sure—Denny’s is trying to keep serving its famous breakfast, no matter what.
